WHY SERENDIB MED TRAILS

Everything handled, so you can focus on the placement

A medical elective is a short-term educational programme designed to provide medical students with valuable practical exposure before beginning their professional careers. The programme offers international medical students the opportunity to gain experience within the Sri Lankan healthcare system through short-term elective placements.

Our Medical Elective programme works in collaboration with government hospitals in Sri Lanka. These healthcare placements allow medical students to experience the country's healthcare system firsthand and gain insight into its busy and diverse medical environment. Students can participate in their selected departments and healthcare settings, working alongside both Sri Lankan and international medical students.

Through our partnership with Karapitiya National Hospital, students have the opportunity to observe experienced local consultants, doctors, and nursing staff working across different hospital wards and departments. This experience allows students to broaden their clinical knowledge while gaining an understanding of healthcare practices within Sri Lanka.

Serendib Med Trails gave us more support than we expected. The accommodation was comfortable, and everything we needed was well taken care of. What stood out most was the personal guidance from the company’s doctor. From our first day in the wards to our experience in the operating theatre, having someone guide us through unfamiliar hospital settings helped us feel comfortable and supported.

Choosing Serendib Med Trails was a decision I’m so glad I made. The organised sessions helped us make the most of our clinical experience, and the trainee doctor took time to explain conditions such as dengue and rabies. Our accommodation was nearby, and the transport provided by the team made getting around easy, saving us time and making each day feel relaxed.

My experience with Serendib Med Trails was excellent from start to finish. What made me feel especially comfortable was having two experienced doctors guiding and supporting us throughout the programme. They were approachable, helpful, and always available when we needed advice.

My neurosurgery placement became one of the most meaningful parts of my time in Sri Lanka. At first, being in a new hospital and learning about an unfamiliar clinical environment felt a little overwhelming. The doctors helped me settle in by explaining what I was observing and making space for my questions.
